Geography

Madagascar is situated in the Indian Ocean on the southeast coast of Africa opposite to Mozambique. The island, the fourth in size, in the world, Madagascar is twice more than Arizona.

Form of government

Multi-party republic.

History

Malagasies who have the mixed Indonesian and African-Arab family tree, were the first settlers of Madagascar. Indonesians as historians believe, migrated to the island about 700 to AD. The king of Andrianampoinimerina (1787-1810) operated the island, and then gave board to the son, Radama I (1810-1828). French made the island the protectorate in 1885, and then, in 1894-1895, cleaned a monarchy, having banished the queen of Ranavalona III to Algeria.
