Macedonia – the state which doesn't have an outlet to the sea, being in Balkan's heart and on the area only a little inferior to Vermont. It is the mountainous country with small arable lands. Vardar - the biggest and most important river.

History

The Republic of Macedonia occupies the western half of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia. Historical Macedonia was won by Rome and became the Roman province in 148 BC. After the Roman Empire was divided in 395 BC, Macedonia periodically operated Byzantine the Empire until Turkey seized its lands in 1371. Ottoman Turks owned Macedonia within the next five centuries to 1913. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries continuous fight for the right to possess Macedonia because of its economic wealth and its strategic military corridors was conducted. In 1878 after the agreement according to which the Russian-Turkish war was stopped, Bulgaria got the most part of Macedonia. During the second Balkan war in 1913, having lost to Greeks, Bulgaria lost the most part of the territory. The territory of Macedonia was given to Serbia, and the rest was divided between Greece and Bulgaria.
