Indonesia - the archipelago in Southeast Asia consisting of 17,000 islands (6,000 from which are populated) lying to the equator. The biggest islands - Sumatra, Java (most densely populated), Bali, Kalimantan (part of Indonesia of Borneo), Sulawesi (Celebes), the islands of Noosa of Tenggr, the Moluccas and Java, the western part of New Guinea. In the north Indonesia borders on Malaysia, and in the east with Papua New Guinea.

17,000 islands of which Indonesia consists, are the homeland of many cultures and local beliefs. When islands got under influence of Hindu priests and dealers in the first and second centuries of our era, began Muslim invasions, and the most part of the archipelago accepted Islam by the 15th century. The Portuguese dealers arrived at the beginning of the next century, but were expelled by Dutches approximately in 1595.
After Napoleon enslaved the Netherlands in 1811, British seized islands, but returned them to Dutches in 1816. In 1922 Indonesia became an integral part of the Dutch kingdom. During World War II Japan seized islands. Tokyo first of all oil which was vital for military economy interested. After delivery of Japan Sukarno and Hetta declared the Indonesian independence on August 17, 1945.
