Geography

Egypt is in a northeast corner of Africa at Mediterranean exhausting, borders in the West on Libya, in the south on Sudan, and in the east on the Red Sea and Israel. Egypt is one and a half times more than Texas. Egypt is divided into two unequal very droughty areas, everyone with the specifics of a landscape. Nile stretches for 100 miles (161 km) to the South from the Mediterranean and branches closer between the cities of Alexandria and Port Said.

History

The history of Egypt begins about 4000 BC. The Golden Age of Egypt coincided with the 18th and 19th dynasties (the 16th and 13th centuries BC) during which the empire was established. Persia won Egypt in 525 BC, Alexander the Great subordinated it in 332 BC, and then the dynasty of Ptolemies operated the earth till 30 years BC. When Cleopatra committed suicide, Egypt began to belong to Romans, then Byzantines. The Arab caliphs operated Egypt from 641 to 1517 when Turks won it for the Ottoman Empire.

From 1798 to 1801 Napoleon's army seized the country. In 1805 Muhammad Ali, the leader of group of the Albanian soldiers, became the pasha of Egypt. After completion of construction of the Suez Canal in 1869, French and British showed huge interest in Egypt. In 1882 the British troops occupied Egypt, and the British resident agents became his actual owners. In 1914 Egypt became protectorate of Great Britain.

The Egyptian nationalism headed by Zagkhlul Pasha and the Party of Wafd compelled Great Britain to leave the requirements of the country. Egypt became the independent sovereign state on February 28, 1922. Fu'ad I - became his king. In 1936, according to the Anglo-Egyptian agreement concerning the union, all British troops and officials had to be withdrawn, except the Zone of the Suez Canal. During World War II Egypt remained neutral.
